OLD - FASHIONED SOFT MOLASSES
COOKIES
 
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. molasses
2 eggs, lightly beaten
4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 1/4 tsp. baking soda
2 1/4 tsp. ground ginger
1 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 c. raisins

In a large bowl cream together butter, shortening, and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs and molasses and set aside. In another large bowl combine flour, salt, spices, baking soda; add raisins. Mix together. Gradually mix flour mixture into creamed ingredients until dough is well blended.

Roll dough into 1 1/2-inch balls. Dip tops of balls into sugar. Place 2 1/2- inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes. Cool on wire rack and store in covered container to maintain softness. Yields about 2 1/2 dozen cookies.

The cookies were a bit too spicy to suit my taste. If I made them again I would cut way down on the ground cloves and half the amount of ginger.
