BOILED BEEF WITH VEGETABLES 
2 lbs. fresh beef brisket or stewing beef
1 marrow bone
2 carrots, pared, sliced lengthwise and quartered
2 turnips, peeled and cut into 1 inch cubes
6 sm. white onions
1/4 tsp. leaf thyme
1 bay leaf
2 whole cloves
2 c. beef broth or water, salted
1 med. cabbage, cut into wedges

Place all ingredients except cabbage in crock pot; stir well.

Cover and cook on low setting for 10 to 12 hours. Before serving, remove 1 cup of broth from crock pot. Pour it into skillet; add cabbage wedges and simmer until tender.

Cut meat across the grain and serve on a hot platter with vegetables. Serve with broth. 6 to 8 servings about 3 1/2 quarts.
