1 c. sugar 4 egg whites 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar Preheat oven to 275 degrees. Beat egg whites stiff, but not dry. Slowly add cream of tartar and sugar. Place aluminum foil on cookie sheet. Dip egg white mixture by large spoon to foil. Make nest in center. Make these nests small and separate as they rise in baking. Bake 1 hour at 275 degrees. Cut off oven and leave meringues in oven after you have loosened them from the foil. This will keep them from breaking later. Makes about 10 to 12 meringues. Fill with your favorite fruits or filling to serve immediately for best results. |
