1 c. shortening
3/4 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. hot water
1 1/2 c. plain flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. salt
2 c. quick oatmeal
6 oz. chocolate chips or 1/2 lb. bag M&M'S®
1 tsp. vanilla

Put flour, salt and soda in sifter and set aside. Using mixer, mix shortening until soft. Add sugar to shortening and mix until creamy. Add eggs and hot water to sugar mixture and mix. Add salt, soda and flour to sugar mixture and mix. Add oatmeal and vanilla and mix. Stir in chocolate chips or M&M'S® and drop by spoonfuls onto cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.
