BUTTERMILK BISCUITS 
2 c. all purpose flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. solid vegetable shortening
3/4 c. buttermilk

Sift together into a bowl flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add solid vegetable shortening. With a fork or pastry blender, blend mixture until it resembles coarse meal, then stir in buttermilk. Turn dough on a lightly floured surface, knead lightly for 4 or 5 strokes. Roll or pat into a 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick round. Cut with a 2 inch biscuit cutter. Place on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated 450 degree oven for 10 to 15 minutes.

NOTE: To make drop biscuits, increase buttermilk to 1 cup and drop onto a greased baking sheet. Makes 18 to 20 biscuits.
