CANDIED SWEET POTATOES (YAMS)
6-8 medium-sized sweet potatoes
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 to 3 tsp. ground cinnamon, or to taste
1 cup melted butter, plus 2 tbsp. melted butter
1-1/2 cups mini marshmallows
1/2 cup pecan chips

Slice sweet potatoes into 1/4 inch round slices. Arrange potatoes in a lightly greased baking dish (approx. 13”x9”x2”).

Mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and pecans in a bowl. Sprinkle each layer of potatoes with the mixture. Pour 3/4 cup melted butter over potatoes evenly. Cover and back at 375°F for 30 minutes.

Remove, and baste with remaining 1/4 cup butter. Cover and continue baking for 30 minutes. (If transporting dish, stop here and continue last step at remote location – warm 5-10 minutes in oven before adding marshmallows).

Remove, sprinkle marshmallows evenly on top and continue baking without cover for 5 minutes.

My family loved this recipe! I added 1/2 tsp. of nutmeg also. Thank you, this will be my go to sweet potato holiday recipe.

Good and easy. I will reduce the butter and only use 1 tsp of cinnamon next time. This is very quick to put together so I would choose this sweet potato recipe over another.

This was the best. My daugther helped but was so easy I just sat back and added the memory. Everybody agreed these were better than our sweet potato mashed that we had always made in the past. Thank you Joe for sharing this will be a staple at Thanksgiving from now on and Christmas and.....

I am an American living in Thailand. I had made this recipe for my wife's hard to please family (all Thai) and everyone loved them so much, I had to make them again the next day... Hopefully I don't have to do this everyday from now on. If so, I'll go from thinking this is a great recipe to it being my least favorite... Just joking... Thanks Joe..

This is the second time I am making this. We really enjoyed it the first time. It was easy to fix. It was so good that I kept this recipe for future use and glad I did because my mom asked me to make it for our Christmas dinner tonight. It's a recipe I can use for a lot of our meals in fact. This is a really good recipe.

Great recipe it got raves even from people who do not eat yams. I cooked it for 30 min. then just reheated it on Christmas Day. It was perfect.

Awesome! Can't have Thanksgiving, much less Christmas without this recipe. So easy a cave man can do it!

We decided to make homemade yams this year because we got tired of having the mush that comes in a can. The BEST decision we could've made was using this recipe vs the others we saw. Very simple and delicious :-)

I fixed this recipe for Thanksgiving dinner 2012. It was fantastic. I wanted a recipe that featured real (not canned) sweet potatoes, and that did not involve mashing the sweet potatoes. This was the perfect recipe! Just the right amount of sweet, crunch, and texture. Delicious!

Everyone (even the ones who didn't normally like yams) LOVED this recipe. Both Grandma and Great Grandma asked for the recipe. I added the marshmallows before heading over and they melted most of the way, but it just made it even better.
