DATE COOKIES 
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. vegetable shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. flour
1 level tsp. baking soda
2 level tsp. cream of tartar

Mix butter, shortening and sugar well. Add eggs, milk, and vanilla. Sift in flour, soda, and cream of tartar. Mix well and roll and cut with round cookie cutter. Place a little filling on half of cookie. Fold over.

FILLING:

1 lb. dates, cut up
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. water

Cook dates with sugar and water.
