GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE 
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
2 1/2 c. cake flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
4 eggs, separated
1/2 tsp. salt
1 (8 oz.) pkg. German sweet chocolate

Dissolve chocolate in 1/3 cup boiling water. Cream butter, sugar, and egg yolks. Add flour, soda, and salt which has been sifted together. Add buttermilk and vanilla. Beat egg whites and fold into batter. Bake in 3 (9 inch) layer cake pans that have been greased and floured at 350 degrees for about 25 to 30 minutes. Cool 10 minutes and remove from pans.

ICING:

1 1/2 c. heavy cream
2 c. sugar
3 egg yolks
1 tbsp. butter
1 c. flaked coconut
1 c. pecans, chopped

Cook first 4 ingredients until spreading consistency. Add the coconut and pecans. Mix until well combined. Cool and ice cake.
