Jam of your choice
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. Crisco
1 egg
1/2 c. milk
3 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Cream sugar and Crisco. Beat in the egg. Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with liquids. Roll 1/8" thick on floured surface. Cut with cutters. Put filling on center of circle. Dampen edges with water or milk. Top with another circle and seal edges. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minuets.
