CHINESE BEETS 
3 (1 lb.) cans beets
1 c. sugar
1 c. vinegar
2 level tbsp. cornstarch
24 whole cloves
3 tsp. ketchup
3 tsp. cooking oil
1 tsp. vanilla
Dash salt
1 1/2 c. beet juice

Mix sugar and cornstarch in large sauce pan. Add all remaining ingredients except beets and cook until thick. Add beets which have been cut into small pieces. Serve hot or cold.
