OLD FASHIONED SUGAR COOKIES | |
1 c. sugar 1 egg 1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in the milk Vanilla 1/2 c. shortening 1/2 c. sweet milk 3 1/3 c. flour sifted with 2 tsp. baking powder Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Add egg, beat well. Add sugar and cream together with shortening. Dissolve soda in the milk, alternate with flour (and baking powder) to the creamed mixture. Add vanilla. Roll out and bake in 375 degree oven. This recipe may be easily doubled as it is a small one. These are best when a large cookie cutter is used or use a large glass. They will be crisp if the dough is rolled thin but the old- fashioned way is to have them rather thick and soft. This is also a good dough to use for filled cookies. |
