PRUNE BREAD 
1 1/2 c. (8 oz.) dried prunes
2 c. flour, unsifted
3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg
2 tbsp. shortening, melted

In saucepan, combine prunes with 1 1/2 cups water; bring to boil, simmer 10 minutes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease bottom of 8 x 4 inch loaf pan. Sift flour, sugar, soda and salt. Drain prunes; save liquid. Pit prunes and chop. Add to liquid and add water to make 2 cups. In large bowl, combine egg and shortening; beat well. Add prune mixture; beat until well blended. Add flour mixture; beat until smooth. Put in pan. Bake 50 to 60 minutes. Cool. Refrigerate overnight before serving.
