TEXAS HASH 
1 lg. onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped (optional)
2 tbsp. shortening
1 lb. ground beef
2 c. tomato juice
1/2 c. rice
1/2 tsp. chili powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper

Saute onion and pepper in shortening in large skillet. Add ground beef; brown well. Add tomato juice, rice, chili powder and seasonings; stir well. Pour into casserole; cover. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes.
