CRACKED SUGAR COOKIES 
1 1/4 c. sugar
1 c. butter, softened
3 lg. egg yolks
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar

Cream sugar and butter together until light. Beat in yolks and vanilla. Sift together flour, baking soda and cream of tartar, then fold into the butter-sugar mixture.

Form dough into walnut size balls. Place 2 inches apart on a cookie sheet. Do not flatten. Bake for about 11 minutes, until tops are cracked and just turning color. Makes 4 dozen.
