FRANCES SLOAN'S BLACK FOREST
CAKE
 
1 1/4 c. sugar
2/3 c. squeeze butter
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3 (1 oz.) sqs. unsweetened melted chocolate
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2/3 c. buttermilk

Combine sugar and butter. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Blend in vanilla. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk. Cook in 2 layers at 350 degrees about 30 to 35 minutes. Cool completely. Split layers in half. Top one layer with chocolate filling, next layer with brandied cherry filling. Frost side with whipped cream or Cool Whip.

CHOCOLATE FILLING:

1 c. Cool Whip
1 box powdered sugar
1 tbsp. cocoa
1/2 tsp. vanilla

BRANDIED CHERRY FILLING:

1 can cherry pie filling
2 tbsp. wine or brandy
