SUPER SAUERKRAUT | |
2 pkgs. fresh kraut 1/2 c. raisins 2 crispy apples 1/2 doz. med. potatoes 2 med. white onions, valdelia preferred 1 stalk celery Choice of meats: 1 lb. sausage or 1/2 doz. pork chops or beet tips, any hearty meats will work Spices: caraway seeds Peel potatoes, apples (if desired without skins), onions. Dice all into small pieces. Brown meat and cut into small pieces. In a casserole dish, place a layer of rinsed kraut. (Easy way: Puncture bag at bottom, run water to top of bag and drain.) Place meat on top of first layer of kraut, followed by a mixture of onion, apple and raisins plus caraway seeds and salt to taste. Continue layers ending with just kraut on top. Cover with aluminum foil, bake at 357 degrees for 90 minutes to make sure meat is thoroughly cooked. Serve hot. |
