OATMEAL CAKE 
1 c. oatmeal
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 c. flour

Pour boiling water over oatmeal and set aside to cool. Meanwhile, cream together white sugar, brown sugar, and shortening. Add eggs, vanilla, salt, cinnamon, soda, and flour. Last of all, stir in cooled oatmeal-water. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes in a 13 x 9 inch pan.

FROSTING FOR OATMEAL CAKE:

1/3 c. soft butter
3 c. powdered sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 tbsp. milk (or a little more)

Cream together soft butter, powdered sugar and vanilla. Add milk to desired consistency. Spread over cooled cake.
