BROWN STEW | |
1 1/2 lbs. stew meat 2 tbsp. oil 1 sm. chopped onion 1 sm. bay leaf 2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. sugar 1/4 tsp. allspice 1 minced cloves of garlic 1 tsp. lemon juice 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce 4 c. water 7-8 carrots, peeled and cut in 2 inch pieces 4-5 potatoes, peeled and quartered 3 tbsp. cornstarch Brown meat in oil. Sprinkle all spices over meat and add water. Simmer 1 hour. Add potatoes and carrots; simmer one more hour. Mix cornstarch with 1/2 cup cold water. Stir into stew to thicken. Serves 5-6. |
