ENGLISH BROWN STEW | |
1 lb. beef, cut in 1" cubes 2 1/2 c. boiling water 2 tbsp. chopped onion 1/2 clove garlic 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. pepper 1/4 tsp. paprika Dash of allspice 1 tsp. sugar 1/2 tbsp. lemon juice 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce 1/4 c. tomato juice 1 c. pearl onions 1/2 c. diced carrots 1 c. cubed potatoes 1/2 c. diced celery Flour meat; brown in hot fat. Add 2 1/2 cups water, onion, garlic, seasonings and lemon juice; cover tightly and simmer 2 hours. Add more water if needed. Add vegetables, continuing cooking for 30 minutes. Serves 6. Thicken gravy to taste. |
