BUTTERMILK POUND CAKE 
1 c. Crisco
3 c. sugar
1 c. buttermilk
3 c. plain flour
5 eggs
1/3 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond

Cream Crisco and sugar. Add egg yolks, mix soda and salt with buttermilk. Add to shortening and sugar alternately with flour. Add flavoring. Beat egg whites and fold into batter. Bake in tube pan in slow oven until match stem comes out clean, 300 degrees for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Do not open oven for at least 1 1/2 hours while cooking.
