SMOTHERED STEAK 
1/4 c. flour
Dash pepper
1 1/2 lb. round steak, about 3/4" thick
2 tbsp. shortening
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 soup can water
Salt as desired (soup is usually salty enough)

Combine flour and pepper, pound into steak with meat hammer. In large skillet brown steak on both sides in shortening. Add soup and water. Cover, cook over low heat about 45 minutes or until steak is tender. Stir now and then. Makes 4 to 6 servings.
