MRS. S.'S NUT BREAD | |
6 eggs 1/2 lb. butter 4 c. flour 3 c. sugar Pinch of salt 2 to 3 tsp. nutmeg 1/2 box raisins 1 qt. pecans 1/2 orange (juice) Cream butter and sugar. Mix half flour with nuts and raisins. Add eggs (batter is thick), add dry ingredients. (Can add fresh orange juice.) Bake at 300 degrees for about 2 hours. Use oiled brown paper in bottom of 2 loaf pans. Fill pans full. Doesn't rise much. When done, remove bread by turning pans over then lay bread upright. This will fill 2 large loaf pans or 1 large and 2 small or 4 small loaf pans. When cool, slice with serrated knife. Bread will be very crusty on the outside. Very good sliced and heated with butter. |
