1/2 c. Crisco
1/2 c. butter or 1 c. butter-flavored Crisco
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
3 eggs
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. hot water
1 1/2 c. chopped raisins
1 c. chopped nuts

Mix brown sugar and shortening, add eggs. Add flour, salt and spices and mix well. Add raisins and nuts. Mix soda with hot water and add it last. Drop by spoonfuls on cookie sheet and bake 10-12 minutes at 375 degrees.
