SUGAR COOKIES
2 c. all - purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 3/4 sticks butter
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Stir together the flour, baking powder and salt in one bowl. In a separate bowl, cream or mix together the sugar and butter. To the sugar and butter mixture, add the egg, milk and vanilla; blend thoroughly. Combine the flour and sugar mixtures in one bowl, then divide the dough into two balls. Lightly roll each in waxed paper and chill in the refrigerator for 3 hours or overnight.

When you are ready to make the cookies, you will need to work quickly with this dough. Cover a wooden board with a clean kitchen towel, and sprinkle lightly with flour. Roll out small amounts of dough to about 1/8 inch thick. Dip cookie cutters in flour, and cut out the cookies. Sprinkle each cookie with colored or plain sugar, and place on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned around the edges.
