CHERRY SQUARES 
2 c. sugar
1/2 lb. (1 c.) butter
3 c. flour, sifted
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. almond extract
1 tsp. vanilla
1 can cherry pie filling
4 eggs, beaten

With an electric beater, blend sugar and butter. Add eggs. Gradually add flour, baking powder and extracts. Beat until smooth. Spread 3/4 of the batter in a greased 13-inch long, oblong pan. Pour pie filling on top of batter. Dot with remaining batter, spread lightly. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Makes about 30 squares.
