1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
2 c. cake flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 c. thick unsweetened applesauce

Cream shortening and sugars. Beat in eggs. Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with applesauce to creamed mixture. Be sure to add flour first and last. Drop on well-greased cookie sheet. Bake 15 minutes at 375 degrees. Makes 2 1/2 dozen.
