PICNIC CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening (part butter for flavor)
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

TOPPING:

18 marshmallows
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add unbeaten eggs, one at a time, and beat until thoroughly mixed. Add flour that has been sifted with baking powder and salt; alternate with milk and vanilla. Pour in well greased 9 1/2 x 13 inch pan. Cut marshmallows crosswise; arrange over batter. Mix brown sugar and nuts and sprinkle evenly over top of batter. Bake in 350 degree oven for 45 to 50 minutes. Let rest in pan for 5 minutes and turn out on wire cake rack to cool.
