1 c. butter
1 c. powdered sugar
1 c. white sugar
1 c. oil
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
4 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. lemon or almond flavoring

Beat butter, sugars, oil, eggs and vanilla until light and fluffy. Sift together flour, soda and salt and cream of tartar. Add to the egg mixture and blend well. Chill dough. Form into balls the size of walnuts, roll in granulated sugar. Place balls on lightly greased baking sheet, then flatten with a glass dipped in granulated sugar.

Bake at 350 degrees until light brown. Remove at once from cookie sheets.
