CHOCOLATE FROSTING 
2 1/2 c. sifted confectioners' sugar
1 egg
2 tbsp. water
1/4 c. granulated sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
2 (2 oz.) blocks unsweetened chocolate or 4 (1 oz.) squares, melted

Combine confectioners' sugar and egg in mixing bowl. Beat until smoothly blended and light. Mix water, granulated sugar and salt in saucepan. Bring to boil over medium heat and boil vigorously 1 minute. Pour hot syrup slowly into egg mixture, beating constantly. Add butter, vanilla and melted chocolate. Beat until creamy and of spreading consistency. (Makes enough to frost tops and sides of two 8 inch layers.)
