SOFT SUGAR COOKIES 
1 c. butter, softened
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs
3 1/2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream butter and vanilla. Add sugar gradually, creaming until light and fluffy. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating after each. Sift flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt together. Add slowly to creamed mixture. Chill for 3 to 4 hours. Roll on well floured surface and cut into desired shapes. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 375 degrees for 6 to 8 minutes. Cool and decorate as desired. Makes 8 dozen cookies.
