MOLASSES DATE AND NUT BARS 
1/2 c. shortening
1/4 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. chopped nuts
2/3 c. molasses
1 egg
1 1/4 c. flour
1 c. finely cut dates

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease 9 inch square pan. Cream shortening and sugar; add egg and molasses. Combine all dry ingredients, mix well. Add dates and nuts. Spread in pan, cool.

GLAZE:

3/4 c. confectioners sugar
4 tsp. water
1 tbsp. grated orange rind

Mix glaze and spread on baked squares, cut. Bake 25 minutes.
