BLITZ TORTE 
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. sugar
4 egg yolks
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking powder
3 tbsp. milk
1 c. cake flour
5 egg whites
3/4 c. sugar

TOPPING:

1/2 c. slivered almonds or chopped nuts
1 tsp. sugar

FILLING:

1 c. milk
1 egg yolk
1/4 c. cornstarch
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening and sugar; add egg yolks, vanilla, milk and flour. Spread mixture into two layers which have been greased and floured. Beat egg whites stiff; add sugar and spread on dough. Sprinkle with nuts and sugar. Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.

Filling: cook ingredients over medium heat until thick. Cool and put between layers.
