2 c. all-purpose flour 3 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar 2 tsp. sugar 1/4 tsp. salt Stir together the first five ingredients. 1/2 c. shortening 2/3 c. milk Cut in shortening. Make well in center and add milk all at once. Bake at 450 degrees for 10-12 minutes. You can make buttermilk biscuits with this recipe by stirring in 1/4 teaspoon baking soda and instead of milk using 3/4 cup buttermilk. You can also substitute 1/2 cup of oil for the shortening for drop biscuits. |
