APPLE CRUMBLE | |
1 1/2 lb. large cooking apples, peeled, cored and cut into eights 3 to 4 tbsp. sugar Juice of 1/2 lemon 1/4 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 lb. butter 2 c. flour 1/2 c. sugar 1/4 tsp. ground ginger Mix apples in a 1 quart glass baking dish with 3-4 tablespoons sugar, juice of 1/2 lemon and cinnamon. Crumble: 2 c. flour 1/2 c. sugar 1/4 tsp. ground ginger In a mixing bowl, rub the butter into the flour until it is the consistency of fine bread crumbs. Add sugar and ground ginger and mix in well. Sprinkle the crumble over the apples and press down lightly. Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown and apples are cooked, 30-40 minutes. Serve with small jar of thick cream, unwhipped. This is also good made with other fruit (blueberries, peaches, etc.) This is or family's favorite dessert and comes from England. |
