BOSTON BROWN BREAD | |
1 box raisins, dark or light 3 c. water 1 stick butter 2 eggs 2 tsp. vanilla 2 c. coarsely chopped nuts 2 tsp. vanilla 5 1/3 c. flour 3 c. sugar 2 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. baking powder Combine raisins, water and butter in large pan; bring to a boil, let cool. Stir in eggs, vanilla, and nuts. Sift dry ingredients and add to above mixture, stirring with wooden spoon until mixture is combined. Fill 8 (no. 303) cans half full. Be sure cans are greased. I use Pam. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees, uncovered. Cool about 5 minutes. Remove from cans. Shake cans it comes out very easy. Loaves can be stored in freezer for weeks. You can use half recipe, use 4 cans. |
