GRANDMA'S GERMAN DISH (SLITZCHES) | |
7 - 8 boiled and diced potatoes 1 package frozen Reams type noodles 2 pints of heavy cream 1-2 yellow onions This is a fast and easy version. My grandma and parents always made their own egg noodle dough and cut it into squares which they then boiled - Reams noodles give the same taste, but not the same texture). Boil diced potatoes and set aside. Boil the noodles and set aside. In a large saucepan, saute the onions until they are brown or almost getting crunchy and burned looking. Then stir in the heavy cream. Cook on medium-high heat, stirring constantly until the cream thickens to a gravy-like consistency. In a bowl, put a layer of the noodles, some diced potatoes, and the cream sauce over it. You can also stir in cottage cheese if you like. Caution - most likely elevates your cholesterol!! We never have it more than once a year but my family loves it. Submitted by: Debie Bechtold (Mary Ann Desch) |
