DATE PUDDING 
1 lb. pkg. dates
1 tsp. baking soda
2 heaping tbsp. butter
1 c. sugar
1 c. boiling water
1 egg
1 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
Big pinch salt
1 c. chopped English walnuts

Seed and run dates through food grinder. Take half of dates add soda and 1 cup boiling water. Cream butter and sugar then add egg. Add date and soda mixture. Add remaining dry ingredients, add nuts last. Pour into a greased pan and bake slowly (375 degree oven) until done (35-45 minutes).

Using the other half dates, add 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar and boil until thick. Spread on top of pudding like icing as soon as it is removed from oven. Serve topped with whipped cream.
