2/3 c. shortening
2/3 c. butter, softened
1 c. granulated sugar
1 c. brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
3 c. flour
1/2 c. oatmeal
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. or more chopped nuts
2 (6 oz.) pkgs. semi sweet chocolate chips

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Cream shortening, butter and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla. Stir in remaining ingredients. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonful 2" apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes.
