GRAN'S CANDY MEAT LOAF 
1 c. milk
2 c. sugar
1 lump butter (big)
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/4 tsp. salt
1 lb. dates, chopped
1 lb. chopped nuts

Cook slowly the butter, sugar and milk until it forms a soft ball in a double boiler. Take off the stove and stir in dates, nuts, salt and vanilla. Beat and stir until it is so stiff you can't stir any more. Turn out onto clean cloth sprinkled with powdered sugar (or waxed paper). Form into a loaf. Place in refrigerator to cool and stiffen. Slice thin when serving.
