DATE BARS 
1 lb. dates
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. water

Cook above to paste.

2 c. flour
2 c. oats
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. Crisco
Pinch of salt

Bake as pie dough, put 1/2 of crumbs on bottom of pan, spread with date mixture and sprinkle with nuts. Add other half of crumbs on top and press down. Bake slow, about 325 degrees, for about 1/2-3/4 hour in 13 x 9 inch pan. Nuts are optional.
