COLD OVEN POUND CAKE 
1 stick butter
1 c. Crisco
3 c. sugar
5 lg. (or 6 sm.) eggs
3 c. flour
1 c. half and half or 1/2 c. milk + 1/2 c. evaporated milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. almond
1/2 tsp. lemon juice

Cream shortening and sugar until sugar is dissolved. Add eggs, 1 at a time and beat 2 minutes. Add flour alternately with milk and end with flour. Beat an extra 2 minutes after adding extract. Pour into tube pan. Place in cold oven. Turn heat to 350 degrees and leave for 1 hour. Do not open during this hour. Cake may need an extra 10 minutes. Remove from pan immediately.
