DUTCH APPLE CAKE 
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. milk
1/4 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
Sliced apples
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon

Cream together shortening and sugar. Add egg and beat vigorously. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk. Stir in vanilla and turn batter into 9x9x2 inch greased baking pan. Arrange sliced apples over top of batter and sprinkle with a mixture of 2 tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon, to which a dash of salt has been added. Dot with bits of butter and bake in a 375 degree oven for 35-40 minutes or until apples are tender. Delicious served warm.
