GRAM'S SOFT MOLASSES COOKIES 
1 c. sugar
1 c. molasses
1 c. Crisco
1 egg
4 tsp. baking soda
2/3 c. hot water
1 tbsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 1/2 tsp. ginger
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 Bakewell cream
5 c. flour

Cream the first 4 ingredients with half of the flour. Mix soda and boiling water and add and stir. Add vanilla, Bakewell cream, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and pinch of salt. Add the rest of the flour and mix well. Chill one hour. Roll out and cut with cookie cutters. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
