FAMOUS OATMEAL COOKIES 
3/4 c. shortening, soft
1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 c. white sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. water
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
3 c. oats

Beat shortening, sugars, egg, water and vanilla together until creamy. Sift together flour, salt and soda, then add to cream mixture, blend well. Stir in oats. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.
