SOUR DOUGH BREAD OR ROLLS 
2 c. starter
3 c. flour
1 1/4 tbsp. melted shortening
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Add 1 cup flour and 2 tablespoons sugar to starter jar each time you use some. Put starter in bowl, add 2 cups flour and melted shortening, sugar, salt; mix well. Add enough flour to make fairly stiff ball. When raised double original size, knead down. Put soda in little warm water and punch in ball as you knead it down. Using both hands, roll, flatten, roll, flatten. Roll at least 10 minutes, mixing all thoroughly. Form into rolls or loaves, put in well greased pans. Brush top with milk, cover and let rise to double its original size. May be 2 hours, depending on room temperature. No drafts. Bake in 350 degree oven, 45 minutes for loaves. Bake in 425 degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes for rolls. Butter tops while hot.
