HALF-A-POUND CAKE 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter, softened
1/4 c. shortening
3 eggs
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. sifted cake flour
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. milk

Cream sugar, butter and shortening until light and fluffy; add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla. Combine cake flour and baking powder; add to creamed mixture, mixing well. Add milk and beat 5 minutes. Pour batter into a greased and floured 9"x5"x3" loaf pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour or until done. Serve with fresh fruit or other topping.
