CRUSTY FRENCH BREAD 
1 pkg. dry yeast
2 c. warm water
4 c. sifted flour (all-purpose)
1 tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. salt

Dissolve yeast in 1 cup warm water, add second cup. Stir in flour, salt, and sugar. Mix until dough is soft and sticky. Cover, let raise 1 to 2 hours. Punch down and beat again. Place in 1 1/2 quart greased casserole dish.

Melt 1/2 cup butter and pour over top and let raise again for 1 hour. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes to an hour. (To serve with Italian food, mix garlic powder with melted butter.)
