BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
1 gal. sliced cucumbers
2 sweet peppers, sliced
8 sm. onions, sliced
1/2 c. salt
Ice water

SYRUP:

3 c. sugar
4 c. vinegar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tbsp. whole mustard seed
1 tbsp. celery seed

Soak cucumbers, sweet peppers and onions together in salt and ice water (enough) water to cover 3 hours. Drain off.

Mix syrup mixture together. Cook 10 minutes, then add cucumbers and let come to boil. Get hot through and through. Put in jars and seal hot. Put in a little more sugar if you want them sweeter.
