VANILLA BUTTER SAUCE 
1/2 c. lightly salted sweet butter
1/3 c. sugar
3 tbsp. cornstarch
1 1/2 c. water
1 tbsp. vanilla

Melt butter over medium heat. Stir in sugar and cornstarch; add remaining ingredients. Cook, stirring occasionally, until sauce comes to a full boil, 5 to 7 minutes. Boil 1 minute and serve warm over plain cake or ginger bread. Yields: 2 cups.
