POLKA BEAN BAKE | |
1/2 lb. bacon 1 lg. onion, diced 1 1/2 lbs. lean hamburger 3/4 c. ketchup 1/2 c. brown sugar 2 tbsp. vinegar 2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce 1 (16 oz.) can pork & beans 1 (16 oz.) can butter beans 1 (16 oz.) dark red kidney beans Saute bacon when half done, add onion and saute both until crisp. Drain off fat. Add hamburger and saute on medium heat until red color disappears. Add ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce and all the beans. Spread in 9 x 13 inch pan and bake in preheated 325 degree oven for 1 hour. Serves 6. Can be frozen. MICROWAVE INSTRUCTIONS: Fry bacon 4 minutes on high in 9 x 13 inch glass dish, add onion and stir. Cook 4 minutes on high. Stir, cook 2 minutes longer on high for added crispness. Remove fat. Add hamburger, cook 5 minutes on high, stir and cook 3 minutes more. Stir in remaining ingredients, cook on high 10 minutes, stir and cook 5 minutes longer on high. All microwave steps should be done with paper towel or waxed paper cover to prevent spatters. |
